5 Best Family Photo Locations in Campbell River & Comox Valley | Gaia Photography
If you're looking for a family photographer in Campbell River or the Comox Valley, one of the first decisions you'll make is where to have your family photos taken.
Luckily, we have no shortage of beautiful locations here on Vancouver Island. From sandy beaches and lush West Coast forests to mountain meadows and waterfalls, there are so many options for family photography in Campbell River and the Comox Valley.
When choosing a location for a family photography session, I look for places that offer beautiful scenery while also giving kids room to explore, play and be themselves.
Here are five of my favourite locations for family photos near Campbell River and the Comox Valley.
1. Miracle Beach
Best for: Families who want beach, forest and lots of variety.
Miracle Beach is one of my favourite locations for family photography because you get a little bit of everything in one place and it's located right in between Comox Valley & Campbell River.
The forest has two looks, one being full of lush green moss and light greenery and the other beautiful West Coast textures of giant ferns and towering evergreens. While the beach gives us open ocean views, sandy and rocky shoreline and plenty of space for kids to explore.
I love starting a family session in the forest and then making our way toward the beach. This gives you a gallery with lots of variety without having to drive between different locations.
It's also a great location for families who don't want their photos to feel overly posed. We can walk, play, explore the beach and simply spend time together while I capture those genuine moments.
If you're looking for Miracle Beach family photos, this is one of my favourite places to recommend.
2. Paradise Meadows
Best for: Families who love mountain views, wildflowers and an adventurous setting.
If you're looking for something a little different from a beach or forest session, Paradise Meadows at Mount Washington is a beautiful option for Comox Valley family photography.
The open meadows, mountain scenery and changing seasonal landscape create a completely different look from the coastal locations around Campbell River and Courtenay.
It's particularly beautiful during the warmer months when the meadows are full of colour and during the autumn months when the blueberry leaves turn bright red.
This location is perfect for families who love being outdoors and want their family photography session to feel more like a little adventure than a traditional photoshoot.
3. Saratoga Beach
Best for: Families who love the beach and want plenty of space to move around.
Saratoga Beach is one of my favourite options for Campbell River family photography.
The wide sandy beach gives families plenty of room to walk, run and play, while the ocean and mountain views create a beautiful Vancouver Island backdrop.
It's especially fun for families with young children because there's no need to keep everyone standing in one spot. Kids can explore the sand, walk along the shoreline and play while I capture the candid moments happening naturally.
Saratoga Beach is also beautiful around golden hour, when the evening light becomes softer and warmer.
If you're searching for a Saratoga Beach family photographer, this is a wonderful location for relaxed, natural family photos.
4. Nymph Falls
Best for: Families who love lush forests, rivers and waterfalls.
For families who love the classic West Coast look, Nymph Falls is one of my favourite Comox Valley family photography locations.
The surrounding forest is filled with tall trees, greenery, moss and natural textures, while the river and waterfall add another element to the photographs.
Rather than spending the entire session posing, we can walk along the trails, explore the forest and let the kids interact with their surroundings.
The result is a gallery that feels natural, colourful and connected to the beautiful landscape around us.
If you want family photos in the Comox Valley that have that unmistakable Vancouver Island feel, Nymph Falls is a great choice.
5. Seal Bay
Best for: Families looking for a peaceful West Coast forest setting.
Seal Bay is another favourite location for family photography in the Comox Valley.
The forested trails offer beautiful greenery, tall evergreen trees, giant ferns and soft natural light. It's a peaceful setting that works particularly well for families who prefer the forest to the beach.
I love using the trails to create a session that feels like you're simply taking a walk together. We can stop along the way for family portraits, let the kids explore and capture the little moments that happen naturally.
For families looking for a Comox Valley family photographer, Seal Bay is a beautiful choice for relaxed and natural outdoor photos.
Which Family Photography Location Is Right for You?
Each of these locations offers something a little different:

🏔️Paradise Meadows — mountains + meadows + wildflowers
🌊 Saratoga Beach — sandy beach + ocean + mountain views
🌲 Nymph Falls — forest + river + waterfall
🌿 Seal Bay — lush forest + peaceful trails
The best location really depends on your family and the kind of photographs you love.
If you want a combination of forest and beach, Miracle Beach is a great choice.
If you're drawn to mountains and open scenery, Paradise Meadows might be perfect.
If your kids love running around on the beach and playing in the sand, Saratoga Beach gives them plenty of room to explore. And if you're happiest surrounded by lush Vancouver Island forest, Nymph Falls or Seal Bay could be the perfect fit.
