Why Choose Gaia Photography | Vancouver Island Wedding Photographer

Choosing your wedding photographer is about more than finding someone who takes beautiful photos. You're choosing someone who will be alongside you throughout some of the most meaningful moments of your wedding day.

My goal is to make that experience feel relaxed, genuine and fun while creating photographs that bring you right back to how your day felt.

If you're looking for a Vancouver Island wedding photographer, here's a little about my approach and what you can expect when you work with Gaia Photography.

Gaia Photography | Alyssa Balmer

Natural, Genuine Photography

I don't want your wedding photos to feel overly posed or like a collection of moments that never actually happened.

I love capturing the little things, the laughs, the nervous excitement, the way you look at each other, your friends tearing up during the ceremony and all the in-between moments that make your wedding yours.

I'll give you direction when you need it, especially during portraits, but I'll also leave plenty of room for things to naturally unfold.

Relaxed and Easygoing

Being photographed can feel intimidating, especially if you're not used to having your photo taken.

You don't need to know how to pose, where to stand or what to do with your hands. I'll guide you through it while keeping things relaxed and giving you space to simply enjoy being together.

I want your wedding photography to feel like a fun part of your day rather than another thing you have to worry about.

I Love the Vancouver Island Landscape

Forests, beaches, mountains, gardens, farms and mossy trails are some of my favourite places to photograph.

As a Vancouver Island wedding photographer, I love incorporating the natural surroundings into your photographs rather than treating the landscape as just a backdrop.

Whether you're getting married near Campbell River, in the Comox Valley, around Courtenay or somewhere else on Vancouver Island, I'm always looking for those little pockets of beautiful light and scenery.

Colourful, True-to-Life Editing

My editing style is natural and colourful, with an emphasis on keeping skin tones looking natural and allowing the colours of your day to shine.

I don't want your photographs to feel overly trendy. I want you to look back years from now and still recognize the colours, people and feeling of your wedding day.

Digital + 35mm Film

I also offer 35mm film photography as an addition to wedding packages.

Digital photography allows me to comprehensively document your day, while film adds something a little different, soft grain, beautiful colours and a nostalgic quality that can make certain moments feel extra special.

I love combining the two to create a gallery that feels both complete and personal.

Your Wedding Should Feel Like You

There isn't one way a wedding is supposed to look, and there isn't one way your photographs should look either.

Whether you're planning an intimate Vancouver Island wedding, a big celebration with all your favourite people, a beach ceremony, a forest wedding or something completely unique, I want to document it in a way that feels true to you.

I'm here to help with the photography, but more importantly, I want you to be able to forget about the camera and enjoy your day.
